On Thursday night, NBC presented the three-hour live event The Sound of Music Live, featuring Carrie Underwood and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer as Maria and Captain Von Trapp. This adaptation of theRogers and Hammerstein classic, about a young novice who falls in love with the Captain and his seven children, with Nazi-occupied Austria serving as the backdrop, was broadcast live.
NBC’s decision to remake the classic movie, which starred Julie Andrews as Maria, drew criticism from die-hard fans, who questioned whether Underwood could match Andrews’ performance in the 1965 film, as well as how the live element of the show would be handled. The presentation had the occasional audio issue. Carrie earning kudos for her singing, but mixed reviews for her acting on social media.
