Kelly Clarkson isn't just singing in her NBC holiday special, Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, she's also acting in a few skits inspired by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Kelly plays an Ebenezer Scrooge-type diva who learns the true meaning of Christmas over the course of the show.
Says Kelly, "It's cute, and it's very self-deprecating, which is very fun for me. And I've gotten to be mean in all the skits, so I really love that."
Blake Shelton, Whoopi Goldberg, William Shatner, Heidi Klum, Robin Williams and Jay Leno appear as special guests on the show. Of course, Kelly also will sing several songs from her new Christmas album,Wrapped in Red. In keeping with that album title, Kelly wears several red dresses throughout the night.
She says with a laugh, "They're all beautiful, they're just all really tight. I wanted them a little snug 'cause we're on camera, and they said it adds pounds, so I wanted to take some away first."
Wrapped in Red features a collaboration on "Silent Night" with Kelly's country star pals Trisha Yearwoodand Reba, who just happens to be her new stepmother-in-law. They'll reprise that performance on the Christmas special.
Kelly says, "It's my favorite moment of the special, 'cause we did this a capella moment, which is, like, my favorite thing in the world."
NASCAR star Danica Patrick, Matt Lauer, former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Jai Rodriguez and Ken Jeong of Community and the Hangover movies also appear on Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, airing Wednesday night at 10 ET on NBC.
