During an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry this past weekend Thomas Rhett debuted a new song that he and his dad, Rhett Akins, are going to be releasing this Wednesday â just in time for Fatherâs Day this upcoming Sunday.
Thomas posted, âAnnounced from the Grand Ole Opry stage tonight with my dad that Iâll be releasing a new one called âThings Dads Doâ on June 16th in honor of Fatherâs Day. More soon but get excitedâ
Of course Thomas making music with his dad is no surprise â several of Thomasâ songs include his dad as a co-writerâŠincluding his number-one hit âWhatâs Your Country Song,â where Thomas even went a step further, âI actually threw one of my dadâs song titles, âThat Ainât My Truck,â in the second verse.â
Thomas continues, âAs we started to kinda craft this song, we had the chorus first, and then we were trying to figure out where to take the verses. And we kinda thought, what if we could tell a story in the verses through using some of our favorite song titles, whether itâs from the 80s or from the 90s or now. I remember the first line that I spit out was, âAre you heart broke because you know that ainât your truck in her drive,â literally as a joke, just cause dad was sittinâ there. And as we started to write the song, it felt like it just fit. It was pretty funny, but Iâm glad dad got a shout out in that song.â
Of course that hit is from Thomasâ album Country Again â Side A, which features the title track, âCountry Again.â
