George Strait was honored with the Founder's Award at the 51st Annual ASCAP Country Awards Monday night in Nashville. The honor recognizes those who have made "pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators," and Alan Jackson is one of the previous winners along with Steven Tyler and Sean "Diddy" Combs. According to The Tennessean, Alan, Garth Brooks and Lee Ann Womack performed a tribute to George at the invitation-only event.
George said he was honored to get the call about getting the Founder's Award. He added, "Throughout your career, you don't think about anything like this happening. You look at the list of people who have gotten this award, and it's pretty impressive. Now my name is on that list."
George Strait is up for Entertainer of the Year at Wednesday night's CMA Awards, broadcasting live on ABC at 8 ET.
